As a native of the “urban jungle” that is Houston, Texas, I’d never known the beauty and utility of public transportation until I left my home to attend school in Boston, Massachusetts. Over my four years in “The Walking City,” I became enamored by the perpetual motion and interminable transformation that exists within both the subway system itself and the people that rely upon the service. As I revisited some of the popular stations along the Red Line, I studied the changing nature of the subway, stopped looking for the base movement of the trains and the people, and saw the unique qualities of each and every visit. Each passenger lives on their own individual terms and have their own individual personalities and I sought to capture the souls of my subjects by photographing their defining moments- moments that would allow for me to speculate about who they are and what their stories may be.
