Antoni Gaudí (1852 – 1926) was a Catalan architect known for his use of bold, bright color and implementation of unusual, but complex geometry in his architectural creations. Through his eclectic, but cohesive designs, he single-handedly introduced Spain to the Art Nouveau style. In 2015, during my second visit to Barcelona, I decided to spend some time to more fully take in and appreciate some of his more well-known structures around the city. In particular, this series features Casa Milà, Casa Batlló, and his as-of-yet unfinished, but also most highly renown creation, La Basílica de la Sagrada Familia. As images will never compare with being in his brilliant and bizarre works, I sought to create images that would capture not the aesthetic of each structure, but the emotions they convey when you stand within them. I can’t wait to see these buildings again on my next visit to Barcelona and hope that I will one day be able to see La Sagrada Familia completed.
