Meet Lufuno Muthubi-Mthethwa. Lufuno began her career working for multiple advertising agencies including Ogilvy and J. Walter Thompson. As time passed, the Soweto native began to become increasingly aware that the legacy of South Africa’s Apartheid past still lives on under the surface of the nation’s present reality. As Lufuno pivoted into a series of increasingly entrepreneurial roles intended to support the long-term growth of South Africa, it became clear to her that the nation’s public education system left little-to-no room for creativity, critical thinking, and other soft factors required to facilitate that growth. Noting that 90% of South African schools, including the overwhelming majority of those located in smaller townships and rural locations, don’t have access to essential I.T. resources, Lufuno founded FutureAzania, an organization that strives to bridge the gap and empower South Africa’s students by increasing access to the educational tools they need.
