I ran into Khiyiu in front of Santorini’s Mediterranean Cuisine on a July afternoon back in 2012. He asked me for some spare change and I proposed that I’d give him two dollars in exchange for a portrait. He insisted on striking a pose with a nearby potted shrub, which resulted in this photograph.
