Aristotle George Agganis, more commonly known as Harry Agganis or the Golden Greek, was a star athlete at Boston University in the early 1950s. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 1952 NFL Draft, but when the Boston Red Sox’s owner, Tom Yawkey, offered Agganis a larger contract to play in his hometown, Agganis signed on and played baseball as a first baseman. Boston University’s multipurpose arena, Agganis Arena, and the street that runs along the former playing field of the Boston Braves and Boston University Football team, Harry Agganis Way, are named after him.
