The Way You Move

Yesterday was the Boston University Photography Club’s first photowalk of the 2010-11 school year. We mapped out a route that started at TD Garden and went up, around, and through the North End Area of Boston, finishing up by walking down the length of Hannover Street, through the Italian quarter and through the farmer’s market, culminating at the New England Holocaust Memorial.

I expected a turnout of maybe ~ten students, but we had a whopping thirty-three people (including the executive board) come out for the 2+ mile walk. It was truly an awesome experience; one of the members, Alex H., wrote later in an email:

I have to tell you that I really enjoyed today … When I would go to new places when I was little I would see groups of people with cameras who just wanted to take pictures. I always wanted to do that. It hit me today that finally I can … I’ve definitely found a good place to fit in. Thank you!

Her email made all the planning we’ve put into the BUPhotoClub this year absolutely worth it.

Anyways, the subject of the photograph here is the now-vacant office building at 585 Commercial Street built in 1962 on mouth of the Charles River. I saw it when we turned the corner and knew exactly how I’d frame up my shot. 585 Commercial Street served as the headquarters for Mitt Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign.
