In two weeks it’ll be the longest day in the year… Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it.
— F. Scott Fitzgerald
Exams for summer session are over and I am ready to go back to Houston and enjoy the comforts of home again. Two nights before my first final, I decided I’d go for a walk along the Esplanade (with my camera, tripod, and other goodies of course!)
Now, I’ve only ever known the Esplanade around the BU area- that stretch where the sounds of Storrow Drive rumble on and on, that stretch where your sight is broken by the beautiful and obstructive Hyatt Hotel.
This strip of the Esplanade, however, is just by Copley. The Charles is much wider here and people treat the area as a park. I honestly think my trip here was the first time I got to experience open skies in Boston. The tallest thing within 100 yards in any way were old Willows and Sycamores instead of buildings and streetlights. The sounds were of laughter, merriment, serenity. I may end up returning there many, many more times. It could be my new favorite spot in Boston.
