Not Knowing When the Dawn Will Come, Plates I and II

Taken during our free day in Marrakech after the completion of the 2010 FOCUS Bike4Like in the halls of the souk Djemaa el Fna

Yet another photograph from Morocco showing the contrast between old and new. It was, quite literally, everywhere. Oftentimes, it could be found in the same residence, such as in this photograph. These two doors opened into the same residential complex, yet one had been converted into a garage of sorts while the other remained an entryway. I love that the one chosen as a parking space has the more intricate doorway and also the more damage. The whole thing makes for an interesting visual metaphor.

I don’t really like making diptychs. The whole process doesn’t sit well with me. What I usually do if I have two related images is give them the same titles, such as Drained of Delusions, Plate I and Drained of Delusions, Plate II, or obviously contrasting titles, such as Perfect Lie and Perfect Truth. These two images, however, seemed to work better together as a diptych to me, so here they are. I had a tough time choosing a dividing color, so I settled for the color I’ve chosen as the background color of this website.
