First Time with Film
Take the Wheel, Captain So, as alluded to in the last post, I’m one of a decreasingly shrinking (i.e. it’s getting bigger) group of photographers who has never done film before. Ever. Shot it, developed it, paid for it, et cetera. That is, until a couple weeks ago when I bought my Holga 120N. And I’ve got to admit, I thoroughly enjoy it.  Since I am not Thomas Hawk and have...

If He Loves Me Bring Him Back
This image is from the very first roll of film I have ever developed (and only the fourth I have ever shot through. The first one was back in January, the next two came just before this one.) Considering it’s my first roll and I’ve never even practiced loading the film onto the reel, I’m fairly pleased with the results. And I have to say, the whole process- from shooting blind...

Protect This House
This will be the last of my uploads from the Boston Photo Mob Prime Lens Sunday photowalk. This shot struck out immediately after I uploaded my shots and knew that it’d be the last I’d upload from the week.  What you are actually seeing here is the view through the viewfinder of a 20mm anti-aircraft gun, one of seven mounted on the U.S.S. Cassin Young, a Fletcher-class destroyer...

Love That Dirty Water
Rounding out the next-to-last of my shots from the photowalk, this is a small part of the mechanism that controls the floodgates separating the Charles River from the Boston Harbor. (Here’s a photograph that Rich, the man that organized the walk, took while I was shooting this massive gear). Now, I know the river and surrounding harbor used to be absolutely disgusting, but in the time...

18th Floor Balcony
“So we talked about mom’s and dad’s About family pasts Just getting to know where we came from Our hearts were on display For all to see” This is one of the first couple shots I took on the photo walk last Sunday with the Boston Photo Mob. I don’t think I mentioned it on any of the previous posts, but I made it a point to try and go full manual (except for...

The Monument Solomon Built, Plate I
Don’t be confused; it’s not the Washington Monument. It’s the Bunker/Breeds Hill Monument, commemorating the [misnamed] Battle of Bunker Hill. I was here as part of the Boston Photo Mob walk that I mentioned in the past couple posts.  For the curious, the Bunker Hill Monument is roughly about 40% as tall as the Washington Monument and is indeed located atop Breeds Hill....

All Decisions Lead to Nowhere
Yet another shot from the photowalk with the Boston Photo Mob. I’m sure at some point or another these tracks were actually used to transport parts to and from the ships that’d land there, but at this point in time they just sit there doing a whole lotta nothing.  Fun fact about the shipyard: the shipyard was built on what was once known as Morton’s Point- the landing place of...

[AT] the End of [A]ll [T]ime
Pardon the title. This is just one of the many cranes found at the Boston Navy Shipyard. Most are found near an area with weights ranging from 100 to 18000+ pounds, presumably to load onto a boat to see how it stands up with passenger weight. (I’m sure I’m wrong here though.) In the back of this shot, you can see the USS Cassin Young, a DD class Destroyer that served in WWII and the...

Your Hands, Mine, Forever.
So yesterday, I met up with about 10-15 members of the Boston Photo Mob. We started at North Station and worked our way to the Boston Navy Yard and the Bunker Hill area and were only allowed to use one focal length for the whole trip (It was, afterall, Prime Lens Sunday). I, of course, used my favorite lens- the only prime I own- the 35mm f/1.8. I want to thank Rich, also known as In the...

Time for Class
Less than a month left of classes now, so of course, all the work loads are increasing exponentially. The next two weeks especially are going to be rough ones, but I am hoping to process three rolls of film sometime this week (*fingers crossed*): one roll of Ilford FP4+, one roll of Ilford HP5, and one of Ilford Delta 400. I’ll be sure to post at least one shot from each roll when...

My Month Off
Boy Meets Girl During the month of March, I didn’t pick up my camera save for on one occasion.  I used the time instead to go through my library and evaluate how far I’ve come in the nearly two years that I’ve been actively trying to improve myself as a photographer. I scoured Flickr for photographs I liked and rather than just faving them and leaving it at that, I looked at...
